Scenic Byways Grants Available

NHDOT to accept Letters of Intent (LOI) from interested parties. 

The US Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recently issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for Fiscal Years (FY) 23-24 National Scenic Byways Grants Program (NSBP).  This funding opportunity will result in the award of up to $26.95 million in FY 2023 and 2024 funds in grants to States and federally recognized Tribes to implement eligible projects on highways designated as National Scenic Byways, All-American Roads (collectively America’s Byways®), State scenic byways, or Indian Tribe scenic byways; and plan, design, and develop a State or Indian Tribe scenic byway program. 
 
Important Dates to Remember: 

  • All interested in applying are encouraged to attend the NSBP 2024 Grants NOFO Overview Webinar.   Topics include an overview of the National Scenic Byways Program grants, grant funding eligibility, requirements, and process for submitting a grant application, key deadlines, and next steps post award. Information to register for the webinar is provided below. Thursday, October 10, 2024, 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm Eastern Time.

  • To assist NHDOT in gauging interest in the grant, NHDOT is requiring all interested applicants to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) by Friday, October 18, 2024 at 4 pm electronically to: Lucy.A.StJohn@dot.nh.gov.  
  • If a LOI is not submitted the applicant is not eligible to submit a formal application to NHDOT.   
  • The LOI shall be only one page, include the name of the byway, brief description of the intended proposal idea and the name and contact information of the submitting party.  
  • The LOI is not binding but is required. 
  • The deadline for NHDOT to submit completed applications electronically through grants.gov is no later than 11:59 pm Eastern Time on Monday, December 16, 2024.
  • Applications will be submitted through the NHDOT.
  • There will be additional information coming out by the October 18, 2024 LOI deadline on additional application requirements.
  • We expect that applications WILL BE DUE to NHDOT by about December 1, 2024 or earlier.
