Spaulding Turnpike

The Spaulding Turnpike segment of the Turnpike System extends from Portsmouth to Exit 18 in Milton. It is 33.2 miles in length and is the major north-south artery in the eastern corridor of the state.

The Spaulding Turnpike segment of the Turnpike System extends from Portsmouth to Exit 18 in Milton. It is 33.2 miles in length and is the major north-south artery in the eastern corridor of the state.

This segment of the Turnpike System connects the Blue Star Turnpike (I-95) to NH 16 (the major roadway to northern New Hampshire in the eastern portion of the state), and it connects the major cities of eastern New Hampshire (Portsmouth, Dover and Rochester) as well as several major highways (US 4, NH 16, NH 125, and I-95).

The Spaulding Turnpike has two toll plazas located in Dover and Rochester, with maintenance facilities for the Spaulding Turnpike located in Dover and Rochester.

In addition, for the convenience of northbound Turnpike System patrons, a park area with picnic facilities is provided at Hilton Park in Dover, New Hampshire.

On Dover Toll's opening day, in 1956, the toll was 10 cents. Dover Toll is one of the two remaining, original Toll Plazas for class one vehicles. Dover Toll Plaza contains 8 toll lanes, 4 in each direction.

The Rochester Toll is the gateway to the Lakes Region and White Mountains. Rochester Toll, originally build and opened in August 1957, has 6 toll lanes, 3 in each direction.
