Bridge Work on Route 4 in Canaan

Motorists will be Restricted to One 12-Foot Lane of Alternating Two-Way Traffic

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) will begin preservation work the week of May 9, 2022, on three bridges that carries US Route 4 over Mascoma River, Crystal Lake Brook, and Indian River.  The contractor will commence construction activities on the Mascoma River bridge first. They will then proceed to the Crystal Lake Bridge and Indian River bridge throughout the summer.

During this time, motorists will be restricted to a 12-foot lane, two-way alternating traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals on either side of the bridges as part of the phased construction at each of the three bridges. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the work zones.

The scope of work includes substructure repairs, reconstruction of the deck ends, minor painting, and expansion joint replacement. Approaches and departures at each of the three bridges will be milled and paved once the bridge work is completed.

In addition, while work proceeds on the bridge carrying US Route 4 over Mascoma River, NH Fish and Game’s Canoe Access Facility to the Mascoma River will be closed. Upon completion of the work at that bridge, access to the facility will be re-opened to the public.

Beck & Bellucci, Inc. is the prime contractor on this $1,555,148 project which is expected to be completed by late fall, 2022.
