Bridge Rehabilitation Project to Begin in Charlestown
Maintenance work will impact traffic for several months.
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) will begin a bridge rehabilitation project on Monday, April 29, 2024, on the Route 12 bridge over the New England Central Railroad in Charlestown.
This project will replace the deck/coping along the western fascia of the bridge including bridge and approach rail. Pavement over the bridge will be removed and replaced to allow for concrete deck repairs.
The work is weather dependent and will require intermittent, alternating one-way traffic in the beginning for the preparation of traffic control for Phase 1. Phase 2 and Phase 3 will require one lane of traffic over the bridge beginning mid-July 2024. Temporary Traffic Signals will be implemented to facilitate alternating traffic over the bridge and travelers should expect new traffic patterns. A lane restriction of 15’-8” will be in place for Phase 2 and Phase 3.
Access to South Main St will require a detour using Paris Avenue onto East Street thru Charlestown primary school, please use caution. Detour signing will be in place to direct motorists to South Main St.
Message boards will be used to notify the traveling public as the work progresses. Motorists should remain alert while traveling through the work zone and obey all posted signs. Motorists are also encouraged to sign up for free, real-time construction and traffic related messages (text or email) from https://newengland511.org/.
Miller Construction of Windsor, VT is the contractor for the $918,592.00 project that has a completion date of August 1, 2025.
