Floodplain Work in Keene set to begin

The shoulder in the work area will be closed for several months

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) will begin construction work within the State right-of-way along the south side of Routes 10/101/12 between the “T” intersection of Route 9 and the roundabout at Winchester Street in Keene on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Additional construction work will also be performed within the State right-of-way along the south side of Route 9, east of and adjacent to the Base Hill Road roundabout.

This project mitigates for previous roadway construction floodplain impacts within the Ashuelot River watershed in Keene, associated with the Keene-Swanzey 10309 interim improvement projects to Routes 9, 10, 12 and 101. The project will grade approximately 6.6 acres of the Project Site to create at least 19.9 acres of floodplain storage with a meandering wetland channel and upland islands to provide variability of terrain and habitats, in conjunction with a detailed planting plan.

Message boards, construction signs, roadway flaggers, uniformed officers and traffic control devices will be used to inform the traveling public.  Motorists should anticipate a daily shoulder closure along the south side of Routes 10/101/12 between the “T” intersection of Route 9 and the roundabout at Winchester Street in Keene through October, 2023.  The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2024.

Motorists are also encouraged to sign up for free, real-time construction and traffic related messages (text or email) from https://newengland511.org/.
