Traffic Control Change at Intersection in Concord

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) will be installing additional stop signs and road markings at the intersection of Route 132 (Mountain Road) with Hoit Road in Concord on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.  The work is weather dependent and will require short duration lane closures between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.   

The project will convert the traffic control configuration of the intersection from an existing two-way stop control to an all-way stop control where all approaches are regulated by a STOP sign. The goal of this project is to improve overall driver safety by reducing the number and severity of motor vehicle collisions.  

Portable message boards will notify local road users of the imminent change in the traffic pattern.  The message boards will remain for approximately one month after the all-way stop is implemented to emphasize the new traffic control.  Key changes will include the addition of two new STOP signs for the Route 132 Northbound and Southbound approaches, each supplemented with “NEW” panels to improve recognition of the new regulation, along with new STOP AHEAD warning signs, swapping the existing yellow flashing beacons with red beacons, and applying new STOP line pavement markings.  All STOP signs at the intersection will receive “ALL WAY” plaques.   

The Federal Highway Administration and Roadway Safety Foundation recognizes all-way stop intersection conversions as effective “lifesaving projects”, with data showing a significant decrease in motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries at rural intersections.
