Work to Begin on NH 101 and NH 202 Bridge Over the Contoocook River in Peterborough
Lane Closures Necessary to Complete Work
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) will begin work on the bridge that carries NH Route 101 and NH Route 202 over the Contoocook River in Peterborough, NH.
Starting the week of November 1, 2021 daily lane closures may be utilized between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, to accommodate temporary road widening and striping. This work is being completed in preparation for a lane shift on the bridge, which is scheduled to begin on or around December 15th 2021. This traffic pattern will remain in place until fall 2022. During the lane shift, the existing temporary stoplights at the Granite Street/NH Route 202 and NH Route 101 intersection will remain in place, the left hand turn lane from NH 101 eastbound to NH 202 northbound/Granite Street will be removed, allowing two way traffic to continue to flow over the bridge.
The multi-use path that runs underneath the bridge will be closed during construction and pedestrian traffic will be directed to use nearby sidewalks and the crosswalk at the Grove St./NH 101/NH 202 intersection in order to cross NH 101/NH 202.
Message boards and construction signs will be used to notify the traveling public of traffic pattern changes. Motorists should remain alert while traveling through the construction zone and obey all posted signs. There may be congestion in the area of the project until the nearby Peterborough Main Street bridge is opened to traffic in December, 2021.
E.D. Swett of Concord, NH is the prime contractor for this $8.5 million bridge replacement project, which is scheduled to be completed in October, 2023.
