The HSIP is a core federal highway program with the purpose of reducing the number and severity of fatal and severe injury crashes. In support of the HSIP the Safety Section undertakes the following key tasks:
- Perform network screening and crash data analysis to identify and prioritize candidate locations for safety improvements to highway infrastructure.
- Undertake project evaluations, plan development, management, and delivery of safety projects.
- Conduct road safety audits in conjunction with regional planners and communities to study and address local safety concerns.
- Direct the Strategic Highway Safety Plan in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, the NH Department of Safety, and other safety stakeholders, for the development and dissemination of non-infrastructure strategies for improving highway safety.
- Provide crash studies and analysis to support other projects and initiatives throughout the Department.
